Scott Sigler writes stories that are one part Dean Koontz with a heavy dose of Michael Crichton and a dash of Stephen King.
He is a New York Times bestselling author who has written fifteen novels, six novellas, and dozens of short stories. One look at his library of work and you can instantly see the variety of his writing.
We were both active creators in the early days of podcasting and first crossed paths in 2005.
Like many writers, Scott was having a hard time getting his work in front of the masses, so he began recording his book Earthcore and releasing it as a weekly podcast. Since there was so little to listen to at that time, he quickly amassed a large following of loyal fans.
A decade later, he still gives his stories away—for free—every Sunday. His loyal fans, who named themselves “Junkies,” have downloaded over thirty-five million individual episodes.
We chatted about how his Galactic Football League young adult series has found its way into schools because of the books’ appeal to athletes who may not be interested in reading the typically assigned works.
Scott was a jock himself and isn’t a fan of how athletes are portrayed in most writing, so he wanted to create something that painted them in a positive light following the familiar hero’s journey.
